Banana, Pear, and Chocolate Cake Recipe

Banana, Pear, and Chocolate Cake Recipe

Inspired by a slice at Lizzy’s on The Green in Newington Green, this cake is a luxurious treat, combining the natural sweetness of ripe bananas and pears with the richness of dark chocolate. Perfect for any occasion—or just for indulging at home.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 large pear, sliced
  • 400g dark chocolate, well chopped
  • 150g self-raising flour
  • 120g soft butter
  • 75g dark sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Cake Mix

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, butter, and sugar until smooth and well combined.

Step 2: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 180–190°C.
  2. Place your cake tin in the oven to preheat as well.

Step 3: Add Fruits and Chocolate

  1. Lightly mash the banana slices and stir them into the mix along with the pear slices and chopped dark chocolate.

Step 4: Incorporate the Wet Ingredients

  1. Add the eggs and beat well.
  2. Mix in the honey, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. If the batter feels too dry, add a small splash of milk to loosen it up.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Grease your preheated tin with butter or oil and pour the batter into the tin.
  2. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean.
    • Note: The knife may come out with melted chocolate, banana, or pear, which can look like uncooked batter. If unsure, allow the knife to cool, clean it, and test again in a different spot.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Let the cake cool slightly before removing it from the tin.
  2. Serve warm or at room temperature with a cup of tea or coffee for the perfect treat.

This Banana, Pear, and Chocolate Cake is sure to be a hit with its rich flavours and moist texture. Whether for an afternoon snack or dessert, it’s bound to become a favourite in your recipe collection!
